Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - a cute album
death cab for cutie's "you can play these songs with chords" is the cutest album ever, musically speaking. all the songs are melodically hypnotic, with adorable chords that make you bob your head (or your bobblehead). all the songs are sweet and desireable. some songs, though, like "president of what" is such a reminiscent of old school rock songs, like from the beatles era. don't gasp, some of the songs (i know im stretching it here) are reminiscent of beatles tunes. others are reminiscent of 70's rock tunes. it's all very classic sounding and beautiful. some tracks could have been better, there could have been some more work done on some of the tracks, but why focus on the negative aspects. "amputations" is a cute little song you can drive to, like the end to a movie sequence. to say this album is "so relaxing" or "enjoyable" is to shortened the real quality worth of the songs as a whole. i really liked "state street residential." another fun track is "flustered/hey tomcat," it reminds me of those old school hip hop album interludes with the DJ cuts (public enemy had them, erik b. and rakim had them). overall this is a fun album for everyone. if you enjoy indie rock, soft rock, anything, this album is cool.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Long-term Resident in My CD Player
If you like DCfC or want to get to know their music, this is a great addition to your CD collection.

Death Cab for Cutie can rarely, if ever, be confused for any other Seattle indie band. The consistently clear and mid-tempo songs are unique like a snowflake. The lyrics themselves are genuinely simple, describing moments to which we each can relate. No two songs are alike and the beats, hooks, and rhythms will stay in your head for days. In a time when indie music can be hit or miss, this album and Death Cab's work is a real hit. For pre-OC fans, this album is a great compilation of some solid work.

This CD was a Christmas gift and an amazing one at that. The melodies are addictive! I was a somewhat interested DCfC fan before I heard this album, now I am a true fan. The number of tracks makes this CD a bargain and the cover is a really neat picture of Bellingham.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not Your Typical Death Cab
What the heck was Ben Gibbard thinking?!?! The cover of the Smith's "This Charming Man" is downright embarassing and should of never seen the light of day. The keyboards in the track "Tomorrow" borrow heavily from New Order's "Temptation." Bernard Sumner and Co. deserve writing credit for this song. The rest of the tracks are pretty mediocre at best...painful as going to the dentist at their worst.
If you are new to Death Cab...skip this cd and go get "The Photo Album" or "We have the Facts" instead. And while you're at it get the Postal Service's "Give Up" as well. These albums are better in every possible way than this cd of rare B-sides and demos.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Death Cab album for die hard fans
This album is a collection of rarities and b-sides and I would not reccomend it to the first time death cab buyer your best bet is to pick up the photo album the biggest plus to this album is the smiths cover of this charmning man which is done semi tastefully aside from a few lyrical miffs.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great album for fans or newbies
I'm fairly familiar with DCFC, having seen them live three times and hearing most of their songs.

This is one of my favorite Death Cab albums. It's raw and fun. It feels like the band is having fun as they play the music. It has a garage jam session feel yet sounds great. If you like Death Cab, you should have this album.

Whether or not you've heard this band before, I strongly reccommend this album!

CLLCT - The Collective Family An online community of indipendent musicians who have made their music free to download. No, it's not myspace.
(disclaimer: I have a profile there too, but nothing that I haven’t also posted on mefi.music. Apart from that I have nothing else to do with running or maintaining the site.)

Originally the 001collective, cllct is a community (or a collective if you will) of musicians dedicated to giving away their music for free on the internet. I randomly found the original 001 site while looking for online communities to post my own home recordings to. Not long after I signed up, the site changed to its current format under the new name cllct.

There is some phenomenal music to be found there, from the cuteness overload of Shelby Sifers, to the mature stylings of Generous Alzir, and even the off-kilter experiments of the Secret Owl Society (who is also the man behind the entire site).

Some other favourites of mine include:
21 love songs – a tribute to Magnetic Fields
Fire in the Mountains – James Eric
Pinecones – The Uggamuggas
Macondo – Fox Paws

I hope you enjoy the music!
