Love Wheezer
I really liked this cd. Towards the end it slowed down a little too much for me but I listen to it alot.

another day at the office
this band seems to have had some good moments- although i was drinkinig then. this effort is obvious and can be fun at the first few listens if you live in manhattan or west l.a. and wear a cowboy hat, or hang out at the river a lot. maybe investigate more off the charts rock stuff like tuxedo moon, the german shepherds, minimal man, rick kaley and the menacing mutants, friction, cat party, lost sounds, t.s.o.l, suburban lawns, new collapse, stockhausen, the screamers. none of this makes sense in that while this record is from what is perceived/marketed as an indie band- jennifer hudson is an artist who's a real soul goddess and way more punk and rocking.

Weezer is Weezer
Though not as good as the blue album this album is a very strong showing for Weezer with solid songs such as pork and beans, dreamin, troublemaker, and heart songs, you are left with a distinct and memorable addition to any Weezer collection. If you are not a big fan of Weezer this is probably not for you because they definitely follow their same model for success.

Weezer - Weezer (Red Album)
God I miss the 90's. Every different genre seemed to be struggling to redefine itself and Weezer was certainly somewhere near the forefront there. But blah blah blah it's been 14 years since the Blue album. Yes, 14 years!
Anyway, it's not like that's been Weezer only other album besides this one, and they've compiled quite a nice group of CDs in their career and except for a couple of missteps along they way (Maldroit...Make Believe...), Weezer has been mostly enjoyable. I hadn't heard much from them in a while so when I heard the single Pork and Beans waaay back in April '08 on youtube leak video, I was increasingly excited to hear the new album.
When the day finally came and I managed to pick up the CD, I was really blown away. Trouble maker had me singin' along by the end of it. Greatest Man had me rockin' out like no other in my car. And I already knew the words to Pork and Beans leading lots and lots of air-guitaring. But then I noticed something. The thrill of those songs is undone by Heart Songs and the rest of the album seems to just drop off. The lyrics get a bit tepid as they seem to be stuck in "inner-juvenile" mode for the entirety of the album. It seems to just kind of float on from that point.
Okay okay, so this album isn't that bad. It's brain candy if nothing else that you'll probably end up shelving after a few listens and pulling out every so often to hear whichever song you most identified with.
