Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Death Cab roots
My first exposure to Death Cab was from Plans. Great album. I then moved to Transatlanticism. Another great record. My most recent purchase was this one, We Have The Facts.

On the surface, it's obvious this is Death Cab. Their sound is fairly unique. After several listens, though, I've decided that I definitely like their latest two releases much better.

This is a good album. Check out Title Track, Lowell MA, and Scientist Studies for more of what you love about Death Cab. I think the reason this release doesn't rate higher, though, is that it just doesn't stick out like their later releases.

Many have said that Death Cab has now "sold out". Puh-lease. Just because you sign with a major label, does that imply you have now sold out? I don't buy into that at all. The fact is that Death Cab has matured over the last several years.

If you're a Death Cab fan already, by all means, buy this. If you're not and you're looking for an entry point, you'd probably enjoy Transatlanticism or Plans much more. I do enjoy this, but it's better for background music while I'm working than for pure listening enjoyment. I'm still going to end up buying more of their older stuff, though.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love this album
Alright, granted this doesn't have the flare/character that Plans has, but it is right up there with it in it's own way. This cd has a ton of emotion in it. Though it's slower music...it is very engaging and I actually prefer it over Plans if I'm in a relaxed/tired mood. If you think CDs like Postal Service/Plans are awesome but have a few too many random sounds in them, this CD will also rank high on your list as it is a very lyrical and musical cd (less artifical sounds). All in all...it gets an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Simple, beautiful. Simply beautiful.
I will not pretend to be a music aficionado, and I will try to save everybody from the normal pretentious review that you will normally find on Amazon for bands like Death Cab For Cutie, Arcade Fire, The Shins, etc. I like all of the afforementioned bands, but I'm about as simpleton as simpletons can get when music is involved. But I had to comment on We Have the Facts...I'm a fairly new Death Cab fan, this being the second album I've purchased. And I absolutely love it. My fear is that there are people out there who are musically obtuse that will steer clear of bands like Death Cab, and specifically, albums that don't contain tunes heard on the radio (like Plans). But this is an album that can definitely be enjoyed by the anti-intellectual music fan. Benjamin Gibbard has an amazing voice. His unique, calming voice makes you nearly forget that the songs he sings about are fairly sad and depressing. Normally, I don't listen to lyrics, let alone read them, but on a few of the tunes (For What Reason; Lowell, MA; Company Calls), reading them gave me a very different feeling than when listening to the song and Gibbard's singing.

The entire album is very relaxing and I'm sure (as some have mentioned) very intricate. That's something I couldn't tell you. But what I can tell you is that if you are looking for something different than what you hear on the radio, and are interested in non-complicated "indie music," then this album fits the bill.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Classic Death Cab Album
Death Cab For Cutie's follow up to their 1999 debut Something About Airplanes continues to build on their ethereal, atmospheric, unique, indie pop-rock sound. We Have The Facts is a more experimental, dynamic, rock album that still retains the previous album's sentimentality. This is the album that transformed them into experimental indie rockers, but didn't launch them into the mainstream. This is a pure work of art, technically the band uses the chords in a very abstract and sparse way, the percussion is slow, and contemplating. Some songs break out of that pattern and demonstrate a more full bodied, but not yet developed sound. Most of the album relies on the musical production. Ben Gibbard's voice is as haunting and beautiful as it ever was. He is given the perfect backdrop which complement his voice well. These songs work so well because of their minimalism. This album has a great sophistication to it, there is nothing else like it. The structures of the songs aren't traditional, so they seem refreshingly new and never get tiresome. Each song is sequenced so that it works well against the last song, and the songwriting captures the emotional depth of the music perfectly. Lyrically, the songs focus on loss and relationships. Company Calls Epilogue is about a wedding gone sour, while 405 is about relationship. The wavy guitar melodies are catchy and loosen up the sometimes slow pace of the songs. This is an album that gradually builds on you after a couple listens. It's not over the top, and requires multiple listens to capture the depth of the music. As a whole, the album works incredibly well, it's cohesive and consistent. These songs have been crafted carefully and are painfully addictive once you begin to appreciate their sophistication. This is indie rock at it's finest. The production takes this album up to new great heights. This album is similar to The Forbidden Love EP, which is also good. In my opinion, We Have The Facts, and The Photo Album demonstrate Death Cab's early raw style, where everything was understated simply and beautifully, before the overproduced Transatlanticism and Plans. This is a great album to listen to if you want to relax, or just think. As they continue to develop as artists, it's amazing to watch their sound change, for better or for worse. Recommended.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - I am a bit dissapointed.
ERm, I'm not under thirteen I just don't feel like creating an acount, seemed deep. Anyways, when I turned it on, i heard some slow stuff. So I thought maybe it was a slump, so I turned it to the next, then the next, all slow! I'm the type of person who like the 'lets revolt against authotiry and scream about how pissed we are' type person. I mean, this stuff is good if you like quiet. Good lyrics, /really/ good, but also quite slow. I want my money back though.... =/
