This 33-track double-disc career retrospective documents the arc of a career that went from arena and radio triumphs in the early 90's (while Nirvana's promise imploded in the wake of hype, Pearl Jam's crowd-pleasing fame only burgeoned) to the uncompromising, core audience-focused tack that carried the band into the 21st century. Shrewdly compiled by the band into an 'Up' disc that chronicles the band's driving, Stone Gossard-Mike McCready fueled hard rock dramatics (including such early career landmarks as 'Jeremy,' 'Alive' and 'Even Flow' alongside more aggressive fare like 'Go' and 'Spin the Black Circle') and a 'Down' side that focuses more on Eddie Vedder's brooding, often dark ballads ('Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town,' 'Yellow Ledbetter,' their unlikely hit cover of the oldie 'Last Kiss'), it's a collection that underscores both the band's range and musical integrity. Though centered largely on the band's pre-Vitalogy studio era and containing no new material, longtime producer/collaborator Brendan O'Brien contributes remixes of 'Once,' 'Alive' and 'Black' that offer new insights on the familiar, while non-album tracks like 'Man of the Hour' and 'State of Love and Trust' considerably enhance the overall listening perspective here. --Jerry McCulley

- My First Pearl Jam
This was the first Pearl Jam CD I have ever purchased. I am 43 years old, so Pearl Jam was getting famous while I was in my late 20s. I liked Alive when it first came out, but I kind of lost track of the band after that.

Now, I am starting to re-visit music from my past due to all the crap (for the most part) that is produced today. This double CD rocks. I love it. I use it to work out to and it is great "driving" music. The majority of the songs I had never heard before since I didn't really follow the band in the past, but there isn't one song on this I can't listen to without doing some air guitar somewhere on the track.

I am very pleased with this purchase, and for a double CD, it was a steal through Amazon. I found it several dollars higher at a big box store.

Like I have said on another review I did for a Bob Dylan CD, three of my four kids don't like it (my 17 year old son isn't repulsed by it) which makes it sound much better to me.

When I bought the 2 discs cd I thought it wouldn't be about nothing. But I was sooooo wrong this is the best collection of songs by Pearl Jam I am so glad that I bought this cd. My favorites are 'Garden','Jermey' and 'Once'. I like how the first cd is set up and the second cd is its like the songs are in order. I really recommend this to anyone that into 90's alternative rock. :-)

This was great collection of Peral Jam's music. I bought this for my boyfriend, a huge Pearl Jam fan, and he absolutely loved it. Nothing negative to say about this!

Eye-Fi Share on Sale for $65 at Amazon

Amazon.com is offering a so-called Black Friday special on Eye-Fi Share:
The 2 GB Wi-Fi-enabled Secure Digital card normally runs $90; it's $65 while the sale lasts.

Given that Eye-Fi introduced a limited-time-only 4 GB "Anniversary" model that replaced the 2 GB Share version in its current line-up, and that the Anniversary model was $130 list but $100 for Costco members, it's pretty clear that the 2 GB won't re-appear, the 4 GB model will drop in price, and Amazon's acting as a clearance center.

The Eye-Fi Share lets you upload pictures over a local network to a designated computer, or upload via a Wi-Fi network for which the Eye-Fi is configured to connect over the Internet to Eye-Fi's servers, and from there to a specified photo-sharing, social-network, or photo-printing service.

I'm a fan of the Eye-Fi, although I favor the currently $130 Explore model (see my review), which comes with geotagging (via Skyhook Wireless) and adds a year of included uploading via Wayport locations (now part of AT&T).

Nokia Smart Home Solution Puts Power of Control Onto Your Cellphone [Smart Home]

With energy conservation and easy eco-friendliness on just about everybody's agenda these days, one of the most popular concepts is the “Smart Home,” a living environment that knows just how much power you actually need to be comfortable and gives you not a drop more. Nokia's hopping on that wagon with its new Nokia Home Control Center, a Linux-based platform that will control your house's resources via your mobile phone.

According to Nokia, the NHCC will allow third-party developers to create services that are added onto the accessibility platform. That way, you'll rarely come across an incident where some new smart home tech you bought doesn't actually work with your main controller. NHCC works with Z-Wave, ZigBee and KNX, three of the most common command languages for home networks. It will be launched some time in 2009. [Nokia via Treehugger]
