Another Ice Cube classic!
Raw Footage is definetly the album the brings back the gangsta side of Ice Cube. The Ice Cube that rap fans have grown to love and hate. The Ice Cube that did songs like, "Amerikka's Most Wanted, Wicked, and who could forget, The Ni**a you love to hate." Ice Cube maybe focusing more on his acting roles in movies, but he is proving to the new generation of rap superstars with Raw Footage that he truly is, The Original Gangsta.

Raw album
I've like Ice Cube since Amerikkka's Most Wanted and is aware of what he is capable of when he is at his best. I liked Laugh Now Cry Later but that album was far from what Ice Cube can do. This album is more true to what Ice Cube is capable of while not like Amerikkka's Most Wanted, The Predator, Death Certificate and Lethal Injection, its still a notable release that is his best album in recent memory.
It Takes A Nation should have been the first track on the album not I Got My Locs On. Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It is a great first single as Cube shows of his lyrical skills while trouncing those who blame the world's problems on gangsta rap.I also like the remix with Nas and Scarface too. He also spreads gems in Why Me feat Musiq, Get Money, Spend Money, No Money, Cold Places, Stand Tall and Hood Mentality. Get Used To It feat WC and The Game is a west coast banger as all three kick it over a laid back funky beat. Jack N The Box is good but the hook needs work. Even with these tracks the album still has its flaws. I Got My Locs On feat Young Jeezy is straight up trash. Do Ya Thing sucks and Ice Cube busts the worst verses of his respectable career on the awful Thank God. Sample: "He think he the s***/ the s*** think he me/ so come smell mine/I bet it dont stink". Wow, just wow. Even with these flaws, Raw Footage is still a pretty good release from one of the best things to happen to rap(hint hint Ice Cube). Standouts: GANGSTA RAP MADE ME DO IT(original and remix), HOOD MENTALITY, WHY ME, COLD PLACES, GET MONEY SPEND MONEY NO MONEY, GET USED TO IT, STAND TALL, TOMORROW and IT TAKES A NATION.

Cube never gonna stop
Ice Cube is in the Top 10 greats of all time, easy. This is just another addition to the collection of great rap music. Hip-hop is going down hill but luckily we have a few rappers staying true to the game. Excellent album, check it out.

Cube Ups The Ante {4 Stars}
Who knew that that chubby, jheri curled kid that debuted on Straight Outta Compton would hang around for another 20 years and still make quality music? I sure didn't. Cube has carved out a pretty stellar resume' for himself. His latest offering, Raw Footage, may not be on par with some of his best work, but it's a solid release that adds to his legacy at a point in his career when most rappers with the same amount of years in the game usually wind up hurting their legacy. (*cough* LL Cool J *cough*) Raw Footage, in short, is pretty much the old Cube over updated production. In some cases, that's a good thing. In other cases, not so much. There are strong cuts that feel like vintage Cube -- like "Stand Tall" and "Why Me", for example. The production can be hit or miss in spots, but it's a worthwhile listen for the most part. The overall vibe is similar to Laugh Now, Cry Later, but the lyrics are a little more hard hitting.
As far as flaws, had this been any other artist, I probably would've ejected the CD halfway through the first track. The Young Jeezy assisted "I Got My Locs On" is terrible on every front from the lyrics to the production. "Jack N The Box" was another track that was done in by forgettable production. As a matter of fact, I think it's the production on some tracks that makes the album stumble when it does -- Cube over southern style beats don't really work that well (though he did sound great on Lil' Jon's album). Another thing that hurts the album are some of the incredibly uninspired hooks -- like the WC & The Game assisted "Get Used To It", for example. We all know Cube can come much better than that.
Raw Footage shows that Cube still has a spark left in him, but the herky jerky production keeps the album from reaching maximum potential. Ice Cube carries this album with lyrics that show that he still has the sharp tongue and wit that made him popular in the first place. The good definitely outweighs the bad in this case, so I'd have to say that Raw Footage is definitely purchase worthy and most certainly a step up from his previous release. I recommend checking this one out.
Standout Tracks: Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It, Here He Come feat. Doughboy, Why Me? feat. Musiq Soulchild, Hood Mentality, Stand Tall (My Favorite), and Thank God
