Editorial Review:

Album DescriptionThe concept behind the album coming is built around relating the streets here in the US to those around the world. To illustrate that no matter what we face here, our native post-colonial lands are suffering 1000 times worse. This project was made to create more dialogue and communication between this country and Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe, The Middle East, and South East Asia, all those lands that were under European or American rule (less than 20 years ago in some places). For far too long we have been separated by petty rivalries and the unfathomably counterproductive superiority complexes that divide our people. No matter how difficult the conditions of our lives are in this nation they are still incomparable to the struggle of the people, (who we were once a part of) that are overseas or right across the border. Revolution is about a constant movement. So instead of retreating intellectually and physically, I choose to advance. I chose to build stronger alliances with my peoples overseas and here in this nation. This album/mixtape has something for everyone, not only in the style of music but in terms of it's mention of so many important topics that are sometimes swept under the rug by corporate media and culture that was bastardized by the oligarchy of the music industry. The title itself has a dual significance, the struggle of developing countries (who are usually almost always former slave states or vassal kingdoms) are mirrored within the Rap Industry. In the same way that First World Super Powers have traditionally and now continuously exploited the 3rd world for its natural resources, land, labor and industry the Major Label Super powers have done the same. Not only in the underground of Hip Hop but music in general, because the underground is the 'The 3rd World.' They have taken the industry, the labor and the intellectual property of our culture and claimed ownership as they once did by landing on foreign soil that didn't belong to them in the first place. They have fed us propaganda on both ends, one telling us that I order to be civilized and part of a globalized economy that we had to privatize our water, communications transportation, sell the rights to our oil, diamonds, farm lands etc... the other telling us that to succeed in the music business that we have to sell our publishing, our masters, and sign 360 deals where they own the rights to our merchandise and a large % of our shows. This album is a vivid and up close and personal look at the two intertwined battles for independence. Burt besides criticizing the album is also self critical, not only of myself personally for the mistakes I made in life and those my friends around me have made, but what we as a people have done to prolong our own mental, physical and spiritual bondage. The fight is not just against invasion and occupation thought but we struggle within ourselves, as the album itself doesn't try to paint America as 'the great satan' but rather as simply a corporate mechanism that has vavasour like representatives in places like Africa, Latin America and The Middle East. There the people who are oppressing us are ourselves, motivated by greed, avarice, and an overwhelming lust for power that created once asset allies turned fallguys like Manuel Noriega and Sadaam Hussein. In other words oppression is not so much about the mask of race that was created to justify the existence of a class system but now our own people are the same ones exploiting us. Just as in the music industry as well, because the manner in which they are educated to operate is no different from that of the people that have traditionally exploited us. The struggle for independence is not just a metaphor for what goes on in countries fighting for their hegemonic voice, but also for the will and the strength to be interpreted so by the very music that defines a people and a country.

This struggle that is playing itself out between the resistance that fights for the culture and soul of Hip Hop opened my eyes to that fact that we are not outnumbered. Just not organized as well as we should be. I have traveled to many places South America, Central America, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean and I look forward to building more solid frontiers with people who are doing the same where they are. Many told me that this war was impossible to win, and that the inevitable death of the substance left in this music and any music would come by force. But I, and the people I involved with this project such as Green Lantern who has been working on this with me since early 2007, and Southpaw as well as the few and proud over at Viper Records will not accept such a fate for our people. The 3rd World has a very diverse sound in its production and in the slew of guests I have asked to be a part of it. It also has a wide variety of concepts that are in the form of songs, which help to bring the story of this struggle to life. And even though it is an album in terms of being all original tracks Dj Green Lantern cut and blended the tracks together like a traditional mixtape. There are supporters of mine who have been waiting on other projects I promised, 'The Middle Passage' and 'Revolutionary Vol.3' two interestingly complicated projects that I am still working on and actually about half done with. This album was a bridge to the other albums that I have coming. It is a violent but lyrically saturated expression of music with a purpose and I thank all of the long time supporters of the message and the music for all that they have done in joining this Revolution that continues. Peace & Respect, Immortal Technique

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Dope release-still waiting for 'Middle Passage' though....Solid 4 out of 5
'The 3rd World' is a solid effort to satisfy the fans that have waited 5 years for ANY material to be dropped by Immortal Technique. We did not recieve a hastily, uninspired dime-a-dozen mixtape either....you can feel the energy and effort brought by Tech on each song. While not totally cohesive(it is a mixtape!)as his previous efforts, Immortal Technique used this more as an opportunity to lay out his many thoughts of the recent times and improved raps on wax. The production is on point with Green Lantern & Co. behind the boards-overall, bangin' beats..definitely doing Technique a justice. This release heightens the hype for the upcoming 'Middle Passage' and 'Revolutionary vol.3(probably his intention) so dont expect a full fledged follow up in the series, think of it more as an update on his movement(unless your up on his myspace page, we havent heard much from him). Cop this album and support true revolutionary hip hop.PEACE.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hip Hop is Alive
Technique is the realest and he'll give it to you straight with this CD...true, hardcore lyrics with dope beats...also check out revolutionary vol.1 and 2 if you haven't heard of them. Both cd's are sick, but vol.2 is a real classic.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - He's A Gimmick!!!!
This Dude is not Real. Immortal Techique has Brainwashed a Small Cult Following, And i do mean Small who following and hang off his every word. He uses politic's as a gimmick to drag people in. How do we know who this dude really is or how he really grew up?? Other that what we read or what he tells us. He doesnt live the life. He's a fraud who takes advantage of hip hop fans who cant think for themselves. If you want Someone Real, Listen to "Dead Prez", NOT THIS GUY!!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY and buy Dead Prez!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Loved it
One of the best rap albums to come out this year. I loved it. Go get this you will not be disapointed.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice Mixtape Between Revolutionary Vol. 2 & 3 (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4.0 stars)
Immortal Technique has been an artist who I have been hearing on a consistant basis, but never gotten around to checking out. After picking this up, based on a few recommendations, I would have to say that I was fully impressed with the material on this album here. The production here is good, and the lyrics are impressive.

What I noticed was that Immortal Technique rarely holds nothing back with his subject matter, in which is album's lyrics are mostly focused on political topics. A few tracks that stood out to me on the first listen was "That's What It Is" as "Harlem Renaissance". The latter song has a headbanging beat. Immortal Technique also focuses on struggles during his life and while in jail, on "Parole", and "Crimes Of The Heart". I noticed that he also groups well with guest appearances, such as "Lick Shots" where he can keep up with Chino XL. Even Crooked I spits a hot verse on that track. "Hollywood Drive By" is another sick track that features Psycho Realm (haven't heard from them in a minute), and Sick Symphonies. Ras Kass and Diabolic comes in for another banging track "The Payback".

Overall, The 3rd World is a great album. Heavy lyrics and some great production makes this album by Immorta Technique (don't forget DJ Green Lantern by the way) worth owning. This album does have a mixtape feel, and I personally don't think that he put his best work into it (then again, not many artists do when it comes to store bought mixtapes). Fans of Immortal Techinque will cherish this one, if they haven't alrady. I'm enjoying this am going to look out for Revolutionary Vol. 3. Now I need to go listen to Revolutionary, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Peace.

P.S.- On my album, one of the bonus tracks "Apocalypse Remix" featuring Akir & Pharoahe Monch does not appear on here. Does anyone else have that same problem.

Nick Bradbury just had a tumor removed from his head. Glad to hear he's doing well:

The fact that I'm able to type this blog entry less than a week after the operation has me hopeful that recovery will be quicker than I was led to believe, but it will still be a few weeks before I'm able to really tackle any serious work.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Tuesday signaled a readiness to lower U.S. interest rates in a dramatic shift to support an economy battered by a financial crisis of "historic dimension."

Hanging out at sites like Giz may have instilled in you an insatiable, pocket-emptying gadget habit. But now we're entering a new era—the old guys on the TV are saying that soon we may not even have pockets, let alone money for them. Don't panic though: You've probably got a wealth of gadgetry sitting underutilized in your living rooms, closets and basements, just waiting to be given powerful new (not exactly authorized) features. For free.

I've collected the best firmware replacements, software mods and homebrew hacks from the DMCA-flouting, EULA-hating frontiers of gadgetland that'll breathe new life into your stable of hardware and maybe—just maybe—let you feel that lusty new-gadget rush again.

Turn Your Xbox, Old PC or Apple TV into a Genuine Media Center
Xbox Media Center is about as refined as an unauthorized hack can get, playing back virtually any audio and video format, running a bevy of console emulators and still playing your Xbox games. To be honest, this should almost be viewed as a natural update for every Xbox, which at its core is a slow but functional PC with an easy TV connection. (Any actual PCs you have lying around can run a PC-ported version of XBMC.)

Boxee is a very slick fork of the XBMC project for Mac, and it's available for Apple TV. As shipped, the Apple TV works fine within the closed iTunes ecosystem, but Boxee's support for virtually every video codec and free TV services like Hulu will suit your new, more destitute lifestyle a bit better.

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Installation is pretty straightforward in most cases, with simple Boxee and XBMC setup programs available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Before you load XBMC, though, you have to mod your Xbox with one of these methods, many of which require a specific game. After that it's all install wizards and lollipops.

Installing anything on the locked-down Apple TV used to take some serious finagling, but there are now tools that will create an automated Boxee installer on a flash drive. Just plug the drive in, restart and you're good to go.

Make Over Your iPod, Archos, iRiver or Sandisk with Rockbox
It's hard to look at the current generation of media players and not admire their diverse capabilities and extensible software platforms. That's not to say that your 5th-gen iPod doesn't play back music perfectly well, or that your iRiver H10 still isn't a kickass media player, but they do feel a bit dated. Rockbox replaces your MP3 player's operating system with something more substantial, effectively making it a completely new device. You get endless codec support, advanced audio options, dozens of games, useful apps like a calculator and a text editor, plus you can choose from tons of different interface skins for a unique look and feel. Rockbox's tweaking possibilities mean you will earn admiring "what is that?" questions from friends, and it won't cost you a thing. If your player isn't supported yet just hold on—everything from the Zen Vision:M to the Toshiba Gigabeat S has a fairly active dev team.

Difficulty: Easy. Rockbox has an automated tool called the Rockbox Utility available for Windows, Mac and Linux. It does the work for you. Even better, it often automatically configures your player to dual boot with its original OS.

Convert Your PC or Notebook Into A Much More Expensive Mac
It's undeniable that Macs are too expensive. For many, they are considered a luxury item whose added cost doesn't justify the benefit. Luckily Apple's switch to an Intel platform opened up a world of unauthorized OS X installations which can turn your existing PC into a powerhouse Mac Pro workstation, or morph your MSI Wind or Asus EeePC into the Mac netbook that should be in their goddamn product line anyway. Check the hardware compatibility list to see if your PC is eligible for the upgrade.

Difficulty: Moderate to Hard. If you're not morally opposed to downloading iATKOS and Kalyway, which are pre-patched Leopard install DVDs (this is bit torrent territory), then the process is much like installing any other OS. If you insist on building your own patched install from a DVD you own, then, well, good luck. Always check hardware lists first, though, because driver support is everything.

Flash Your Crappy Router Into a Top-Line Piece of Hardware
The DD-WRT project exists for a simple reason: Most routers are physically very similar, but are priced differently because of functionality derived from software. The DD-WRT firmware unlocks the potential of the most basic routers out there—too many to name but damn if yours isn't on the list. As it turns out, your budget model is kind of impressive: Program-specific traffic throttling, professional level wireless security and radical signal boosting are just a few of the dozens of new features that can be enabled.

Difficulty: Easy. If you can't manage this one, then you don't deserve a router—installation just takes a few clicks on the device's default configuration pages. A word of caution, though: Make sure your router configuration page is totally compatible with your browser before the operation, as some choke on Firefox and can botch firmware upgrades. Stick to IE if you have the choice.

Download Updated Maps For Your Old GPS
I'm referring of course to capital 'D' downloading here, mainly because at the moment GPS map updates are a racket. You could spend hundreds of dollars on map data that is freely available on Google Maps, Microsoft Live and MapQuest, among others, or you can just, you know, not. Map packs for Garmin, TomTom and Magellan units are floating around torrent sites and usually don't require much more than a simple CD image mount and run routine to set up. (Guilty conscience sold separately.)

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. If you're just running a copy of a CD, then you'll be able to use the installation wizards. Some more involved methods for Windows CE-based devices require some SSH file transfers, but these are relatively rare.

Jailbreak Your iPhone for Wi-Fi Internet Tethering
Two internet plans are enough, but to sign on to a mobile internet contract when you've already got unlimited iPhone data feels kind of stupid. Jailbreaking your iPhone is now about as easy as performing a firmware upgrade, and there are actually multiple tethering apps. PDANet and iPhoneModem both work a treat, but keep in mind that excessive usage could draw AT&T's attention and ire: Tethering is not allowed on the data plan, even though it works fine. Both apps are available in Cydia, where you can also find a limited assortment of other apps that don't have a place in the app store.

Difficulty: Moderate. Jailbreaking can be managed through the Dev Team's fantastic Quickpwn tool, but it does take a few minutes and can go wrong if instructions aren't followed closely. After jailbreak, Cydia and Installer fill the role of the gray-market app store, functioning as simple package managers that are arguably as polished as their more legitimate younger brother.

PDANet and iPhoneModem take different approaches to tethering, but neither requires more networking expertise than it would take to, say, set up a router.

Turn Your Wii Into a Free Emulation Machine
It's more than a little infuriating to have to repurchase your childhood library of console games from the Virtual Console, especially when free PC emulators and accompanying ROMs abound on the old intertubes. All you need is a copy of Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, an SD card and an SD reader and you're ready to install A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia, which is pretty much all anyone has ever really needed since this whole "Video Gaming Television Machine" thing got under way in the first place. Throw in extended media playback and some helpful widgets for an extra value-add.

Difficulty: Moderate. This is one of the only hacks here that needs additional hardware to work, even if it's basic. The good news is that once you find a copy of Zelda and load up your SD card, the process pretty much takes care of itself. Further app installs are taken care of through a intuitive dedicated channel.
