Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Great Album
I just discovered Alejandro when I downloaded a duet of the opening track on this album that he performed with Bruce Springsteen. It inspired me to pick up Real Animal and I was not disappointed. An excellent Rock and Roll album that I highly recommend to fans of Springsteen, Tom Petty and the like.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Album, Great Artist
Like most other reviewers, I've ben a fan for a long, long time.

If you're new to Al's music, buy other albums, starting with

1. Gravity (a download steal at $5.99, and it includes both the studio album AND a live concert)

2. Thirteen Years (a bit slow at first, but really grows on you after repeated listenings)

3. By the Hand of the Father (a semi-autobiographical musical, created for the theater stage, that talks about the Escovedo family journey in the US. More of a Tejano album than rock, with some amazing stories burried in there).

4. Everything Else. They're all really, really good.

But don't stop with the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Real Celebration
After his bout with Hepatitus C, Alejandro Escovedo released THE BOXING MIRROR, an album that examined his place in life after a brush with death. His work including that album, has always been sharply introspective, handling tough subjects with the right balance of despair and hope. With his great new album, REAL ANIMAL, Escovedo now takes the time to celebrate his life and accomplishments to great effect.

He celebrates his musical roots on this on; loudly. Taking inspiration from The Stooges, David Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Lou Reed and late 70's punk, REAL ANIMAL rocks harder than any Escovedo release that I've heard. Songs like CHELSEA HOTEL 78, TONY AND CHIP, REAL AS AN ANIMAL ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great talent
I first became aware of Alejandro when I saw him perform on a TV show and said to myself, "I've just got to have this guy's album." Since I love the blues, I thought the safest bet would be to get his Bourbonitis Blues CD, and I'm not disappointed. It's got to be one of the best I have ever listened to. Alejandro's got such a curious and successful mix of styles and genres ... I ordered Real Animal at the same time I ordered Bourbonitis Blues - and, again, was not disappointed. I have subsequently ordered three more of his CDs after listening to the preview tracks provided by Amazon. This service is an excellent way to determine whether you will like the album you are thinking of buying ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - ?
I heard of Alejandro Escovedo for the first time a few weeks ago when I read about him in "No Depression" magazine. He had a new CD out, so I bought it. The first time I listened to it I kept wondering why I hadn't heard of this guy before. Great voice, great songwriter, great musician. Many good songs here, notably "Sister Lost Soul" and "Golden Bear." I understand this album is sort of a retrospective of his varied career, so I'm looking forward to going back and checking out his previous work.

LONDON (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama said on Saturday he was crafting a two-year plan to fight an economic crisis of "historic proportions" and Chinese leader Hu Jintao said his country was ready to play a big role in the global effort.

The W3C Web API Working Group has published the proposed recommendation of Element Traversal Specification. "This specification defines the ElementTraversal interface, which allows script navigation of the elements of a DOM tree, excluding all other nodes in the DOM, such as text nodes. It also provides an attribute to expose the number of child elements of an element. It is intended to provide a more convenient alternative to existing DOM navigation interfaces, with a low implementation footprint." More...

If you're in the market for a PlayStation 3, you aren't going to get a better deal than this: $199 for an 80GB PS3, bundled with a game such as LittleBigPlanet, The Force Unleashed or Far Cry 2. Also, a Blu-ray bundle, such as Firefly: The Complete Series, the Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy or a James Bond Six-Pack. And hell, a PS3 remote tossed in for good measure. All for $199. But there's a catch, because there's always a catch.

These deals are a part of Amazon's yearly "Customer's Vote" promotion, in which you get to vote on which PS3 bundle you'd want to buy and then, if you're lucky, get a chance to race against everybody else for a limited quantity of said bundles. Here are how they're broken down:

PS3 Blu-ray Sci-Fi Bundle - $199.00 PlayStation 3 80GB, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Firefly: The Complete Series, PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc remote

PS3 Blu-ray Action Bundle - $229.00 PlayStation 3 80GB, Far Cry 2, James Bond Collection 6-Pack, PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc remote

PS3 Blu-ray Family Bundle - $199.00 PlayStation 3 80GB, LittleBigPlanet, Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc remote

You've got to vote on which bundle looks the best to you, but don't play it to chance: the family bundle is currently holding a solid lead. 500 of each bundle will be available on Friday, so once you vote make sure to check your email on Thursday night to see if you're in the running for them. The winning bundle will go on sale for the listed price, with the other two going up for a bit more, but still cheap. Good luck, y'all. [Amazon]
