Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - "BOYS IN THE TREES": CARLY SIMON'S FOLK-ROCK MASTERPIECE
In 1978, the music world was being overrun by disco. Recording ARTIST Carly Simon bucked the trend and reverted back to her folky roots for this poignant set, in the processing creating a folk-rock masterpiece that is charged with emotional power coursing through basically unadorned songs.

The set starts off with her big lead hit, "You Belong To Me", which she co-wrote with Michael McDonald, then of the Doobie Brothers. The song builds from the opening bass line (one of the best, next to the opening of "You're So Vain") into a musical surge. David Sandborn adds some great sax playing that mingles with Carly's vocals and the rhythm section is hypnotic. In a way, this song sets the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of her BEST ever!
This is one of the best Carly Simon CDs ever, And considering all her stuff, except that sucky opera and those old moody cover songs, is fantastic, this one rates in the top three. Great roadtrip CD, too... it covers a wide range of intriguing song stories - with great melodies and of course - her magnificent voice!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very Impressed!
I never considered myself a Carly Simon fan. After going through my husband and my enormous cd collection, I decided to start collecting albums from artists that I sorta like, but never bought all of their albums. This is one of the first three albums by Carly Simon that I've purchased. The first I listened to was Anticipation. Although the title track is one of her best, the rest of the album was just so-so. Then came Boys In The Trees. Wow, I am impressed! I like every track on this record. Here are my ratings of each song, on a scale of 1 to 10:
1. You Belong To Me - I think everyone knows this one. Classic Carly here, co-written by Michael McDonald. 9/10
2. Boys In The ... Read More

You guys! Psyched about that whole Watchmen movie thing (previously, we've touched on Watchmen briefly, like, once or twice?), kinda wanna read the book, but you just can't see fitting a 400-page comic into your busy, busy schedule? Fortunately for you, there's The Condensed Version. (Via the often NSFW Journalista.)

Eureka! We'll call it...

NASA got a great big balloon for the 75th anniversary of its iconic Moffett airfield in the heart of Silicon Valley.…

All About N-Gage have the dirt on a game that looks like it has a lot of potential: Asphalt: Urban GT.  I can't say that I've played much more than some FIFA and other random stuff on the N-Gage, but a good racer can add a lot of value to a gaming platform.  Of course I'm still waiting to see if Call of Duty rocks as much as it should.

I've heard it said by Dave Winer and many many others: if only Dean had reinvested half the money raised into the Internet, then ...

OK, so you're the Dean Campaign Chief Information Officer in August 2003. The money starts to roll in. $20 million over six months, $2-4 million per month.

What would you spend the money on?

  1. What does your monthly budget look like?
  2. What is your application and infrastructure portfolio?
  3. How much will you allocate to maintenance?
  4. You're building from scratch, so what problems do you hope to avoid through wise architecture?
  5. What are your big milestones?
  6. Who are your key vendors?

How do you spend in consonance with the campaign strategy?

  1. How will you use the Internet to bring offline voters into the campaign at the same numbers as radio or television broadcasts?
  2. What is your online strategy for responding to attack ads and opposition pundits in radio, television and print?
  3. Online community takes time to build and is very hard to organize geographically. What will you do to match the state-by-state primary schedule?
  4. What can you do with online services to serve the campaign in caucus states?
  5. You are preparing for Bush to launch in Spring 2004. What are your countermeasures to reach out to moderate Republicans online while the GOP uses its advanced voter email systems to barrage 200 million validated email addresses?
  6. How will you lower the cost-per-vote vs. the GOP?
