It is every bit of that...prime Carly, at her VERY best. The two BIG HITS are here, of course [if you don't know what I'm talking about...Sad...Very Sad], along with some other great material. AND, an album cover that's gorgeous, without being controversial. Of course, we know that this isn't the end of the story...the past 30 years have seen a lot of fabulous recordings by Carly [see "Reflections"], but here is where our love affair started. We were all younger then, and sometimes it's nice to think back... Some of you are like me, and have ALL ... Read More Rating: - Carly gets you dancing in a new attitude!!!Carly Simon remains one of the greatest singers of the 20th century and she continues her work even today. Her voice is strong, rich and full of energy; and the musical arrangements for her songs are brilliant. This album contains many of Carly's earliest runaway hits and these songs remain as fresh as ever. This CD proves it; and it brings back fond memories for those of us who danced through the `70s, too. The album opens with "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be." This song deals with female depression as a result of antiquated expectations for a woman to settle down, marry young and have children. Carly also plays piano on this track as does Paul Griffin. All ten of these songs are true classics and her most well known titles ever to come out. This came out in 1975 (still kind of early in her career), and was her sixth album released by Elektra Records. Since this title came out in '75, it does not contain "Nobody Does it Better" or any of her later hits (which appear on later compilation titles). This would also be a "mixed bag" album, containing songs of different sounds. The first track, "That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be" is a nice and quiet song with a soft start and gets a little loud three times. Next comes ... Read More Rating: - Love CarlyAll of my favorite songs are included. A great CD to sing-a-long to. One of my favoites. Rating: - Well, one must start SOMEWHERE!Pop music of the 70's was so diverse that it produced a bevy of ORIGINAL artists. Simon was one of these: a prolific songwriter and a heckuva vocalist. Three of the seminal songs of the decade ("That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be," "You're So Vain," and "Anticipation), along with her duet with then-husband James Taylor (a remake of "Mockingbird") and the wondrous "Haven't Got Time for the Pain," are representative of a time when radio, and the singers it produced, ruled. 'Talk about your ATTITUDE DANCING...the decade had it. For those that want to know about the ME DECADE, "The Best of Carly Simon" is a good place to begin. |
Nick Bradbury just had a tumor removed from his head. Glad to hear he's doing well:
The fact that I'm able to type this blog entry less than a week after the operation has me hopeful that recovery will be quicker than I was led to believe, but it will still be a few weeks before I'm able to really tackle any serious work.
