Excellent, but so many reviews...
...seem to be given in the heat of the early moments--in that time when you first hear a new band you like and listen to them too much for your own good. There is certainly something to be said of a band that can induce such a... heated state. However, while this album is wonderful, it is not the best you've ever heard.
Do you like contemporary, indie incarnations of 'folk music'/'folk rock' (do you like Vetiver, Kings of Convenience, The Shins, Bon Iver, Papercuts, The Avett Brothers...and I'm sure many other [those are just some of mine, I'm sure many have there own favorites])? When a band is compared to Simon & Garfunkel and the Beach Boys, is that a positive thing to you? Do you like gospel and Allison Krauss?
Or maybe you just liked the soundtrack to "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" and haven't searched much beyond that ('til now).
Well, you will like this album (and the band's EP, Sun Giant). You will like this album, and you will hope for many more from this band. So now, buy it and support 'em.

Great Album!
Why did I wait so long to pick this one up? I mean, it's not like they lacked the usual indie world hype. Most of the reviews you'll read are pretty on, using words like earthy, rural, rustic, sweet and warm.
Upon first listening, it was clear that lead vocalist/guitarist Robin Pecknold, was heavily influenced by the Beach Boys (Brian Wilson days, of course). Upon reading the liner notes, this was confirmed by direct references to their music.
This album is good art. Not only is the cover art interesting (Bruegel painting), but the music and lyrics really create and take you into a different world. This album also seems to have a wide appeal. Most people I've shared this album with have absolutely loved it, whether they be absolute music snobs or casual music listeners.
I consider this a 2008 must have. Fleet Foxes' EP Sun Giant is also worthy of a good listen...or many.

Solid Sub Pop Album
The first full length album by the Fleet Foxes is a folksy album full of rich vocal harmonies. The band musically reminds one of a stripped down Belle & Sebastian. As mentioned, the vocal interplay on the album is very strong and has been compared to Crosby, Stills & Nash. I wouldn't go that far in comparisons, but they are quite pretty nonetheless. The only complaint is that many of the songs sound the same and kind of run into one another. Other that, the band has a unique sound and I look forward to future offerings from the band.

4.5 stars - beautiful
If you've ever wondered what it would sound like if Jim James of My Morning Jacket were to become the lead singer for The Shins, then look wonder no longer.
Fleet Foxes is a relatively unknown (albeit on the rise) Indie band who not only write beautiful songs, but who also have a love for music in general. As mentioned in the liner notes, they believe music connects us to a deeper human feeling. They understand how music becomes soundtracks to certain moments in our lives, and how listening to just one note from one song of an album can instantly transport you back in vivid detail to that certain place and time.
As for their album, I can easily see it becoming something similar to that. I bought the album after having the song "White Winter Hymnal" crammed into my memory after a zillion plays on the radio station I listen to. I found myself always singing, "I was following the, I was following the..." and I thought if it's that catchy, I might as well by the album. I'm glad I did. It's quite a brilliant album, and one of the best of the year.
