Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One more great album from madonna
This is Madonna's best album , and she shows a mature and glamurous sound. The album theme in most of its songs is the critic , Being it critic to the American way of life , the luxurious life of hollywood or self critic like in "X-static process" . But she talks about love too , in "love profusion" , "nothing fails" and the excelent "intervention" (the best song). One song gets completely out of the context "nobody knows me" sounds like a outtake of Music , and sounds strange in such as good and mature album. Madonna has been criticized because of this album and its reviews were not favorable , but i still think this is the best album of madonna .
obs: the european (or in the case brazilian) version of this album in not difers from the U.S.A. version , the only diference is the back cover.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lyrically, Her Best Effort
In short, this album is incredible. Did I like it when it first came out? No ... 5 years later, I appericate it more now than ever. Her meaning is deep, the energy is raw and it's unlike anything she's done before. (surprise, surprise) Absolute Standouts are: the hopeful "Intervention," the engergic "Nobody Knows Me," and the beautiful "Nothing Fails," which I think is one of the best ballads I've ever heard her do, and the first time I listened to it, it left me breathless. 5 years later, the title, American Life, just about says it all. Bravo - A+

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Best Avril Lavigne CD ever!!!!!
I have never been this depressed in my entire life. Who wrote these lyrics, Hillary Clinton????

"I'm drinking a soy latte, I get a double shot-tay, it goes right through my body and you know I'm satisfied"- It's worth it just to hear this line.

"I'd like to express my own point of view, I'm not a Christian and I'm not a Jew"- Yeah, we pretty much figured that out, M.

"Push the button, don't push the button"- Make up your damn mind, Madonna!

"I'm not myself when you go quiet, I'm not myself alone at night"- (Don't ask)

Yeah, don't blame her awful rapping attempt for this trainwreck. There isn't one good song on this at all. I actually got laughed at for trying to do the song "American Life" at Karaoke.

I've tried so many times to like this CD. Really. If it hadn't been for "Confessions On A Dance Floor", her career would have been a complete and utter trainwreck. All the songs are contrived to the point where they sound exactly the same.

Yup, this stinks pretty bad.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Britney, is that you?
Probably Madonna's worst album ever, Madonna fails to achieve her concept, which some people tell me she was aiming for. Okay, so let me preface this by saying that I am a certified Madonna nut...over a thousand Madonna items collected from the beginning, and I've seen Maddy in concert over 20 times. I was even at the Confessions concert in London that's now out on DVD. I love Madonna. For me; however, it's always been the music. I don't think Madonna has had a good album since ROL, but this is her worst...I mean, it's bad. So, Madonna wants to make a concept album about the condition of the world (more celebrities preaching to us about the world...blah...blah).

Let's take the title track. As a song alone, it is horrid. Why is Madonna rapping in this song? It falls flat and because it's lost in the nauseating grip of Madonna's rapping, I for one am not really sure what Madonna's message is. Okay, sure, we have the lyrics, but it's a lousy single. And there is no passion in the song. Madonna made a fantastic video to the song, and then pulled it for a dumbed down version where she sings in front of world flags so as not to offend. What?! The original version reminded me of the Like a Prayer days and it almost conveyed the message of the song, but she pulled it. Whatever.

Let's move on to other songs...I'm So Stupid is SO stupid as a song, that I'm not even going to give it credence as a song. Nothing Fails is a good song that stands out on the album. It belongs on another CD. Hollywood is another horrible...horrible track. The problem with this album, as with COADF and Music is that she starts to mix her voice with computers and vocoders that you don't know who is Madonna and who is the imposter. Why is it appealing to make your voice sound like a computer? No Madonna fan has ever answered that question for me. Sorry, I prefer real musical tracks like Like A Prayer over Paradise where her voice sounds like a computer terminal. This album sounds like Britney's Blackout in a lot of places...lol...and that's bad. I thought the world was over when Madonna sang with Britney. That song, Me Against the Music was the worst piece of trash I'd ever heard, but this album sounds like a Britney album.

Love Profusion is another worthless track...filler really. I'm not even sure why a video was made for this song. Nobody Knows Me is as nauseating as I'm So Stupid. The other tracks aren't as bad, but cohesively, the album doesn't flow well. It is Madonna's worst album. Don't waste your time on this one. You know, there was a time years ago, when I didn't think there could be a bad Madonna album, but I was wrong, and this is it. Pick up Like a Prayer or Ray of Light instead and stay away from her newer ones.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - not a great fan
American life is the best, cohesive album of Madonna. Although i am not a particular great fan of her earlier work, after listening to this album, it somehow made me discover some earlier gems on ray of light, erotica and music. But American Life stands out.

Hurricanes, as we've seen, can wreak serious havoc when they strike populated areas. We've never had control over them before, but one researcher thinks they could be broken up with F-4 fighter jets.

In theory, sending in a pair of the jets to do loops around the eye of the hurricane while it's still out over the ocean, creating sonic booms, would break it up before it hits the shore.

Jet fighters flying at supersonic speeds along special trajectories with a hurricane/typhoon at various altitudes would create supersonic booms. In one such embodiment, the trajectories for the supersonic booms of the present invention are counter to the rotational component of the hurricane and/or typhoon being targeted. As such, supersonic booms can be tailored and/or designed to partially and/or fully -negate the basic rotational contribution in a hurricane by slowing down a hurricane's/typhoon's rotation. Additionally, when supersonic booms propagate downward to the surface of the ocean they also destabilize a hurricane's/typhoon's structure by increasing the pressure in the central part of a hurricane's/typhoon's eye.

It's a pretty crazy idea, but I guess it makes sense. It would be pretty amazing to be able to stop any hurricane before it hit shore, saving millions and millions of dollars and who knows how many lives. I can't wait for them to test this out. [Patent via AV Web; Thanks, Jason!]

The fact that I'm able to type this blog entry less than a week after the operation has me hopeful that recovery will be quicker than I was led to believe, but it will still be a few weeks before I'm able to really tackle any serious work.
